I understand this as just an opinion. Look at the chart that you showed on opening: 34,51% is not a small thing. Also, your data might rely on "people whom said that uses the language", which may involve JavaScript on frontend, for example.

"... Python can or will eclipse it in that domain", you forgot that Python is also a heavy language, which consumes a lot more energy to be processed than Java, even more than PHP.

Last, but not least: being verbose is not a bad thing. It is only if you are lazy. The amount of characters doesn't mean much: JavaScript accepts all kind of things, and a lot of things developed using JS are susceptible to errors because of that.
